Challenges and opportunities for the electrification of heavy road transport in Poland
About the project
Heavy transport remains one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonise in the Polish economy. At the same time, growing regulatory pressure, technological advancements, and changes in European climate policy are making the electrification of road transport an increasingly important element of the sector’s transition. The pace and manner of implementing these changes will have a significant impact not only on the competitiveness of the Polish economy, but also on the operations of transport companies and the development of energy infrastructure.
In response to these challenges, Electric Vehicle Promotion Foundation commissioned Deloitte Poland and the Reform Institute to prepare a study analysing the barriers, costs, and opportunities associated with the electrification of heavy road transport in Poland.
The project aims to assess the potential for electrifying heavy road transport in Poland and identify the key regulatory, infrastructural, and economic challenges related to the sector’s transformation. It also examines the impact of these changes on the competitiveness of Polish transport companies and the wider economy.
As part of the project, experts from the Reform Institute analysed the evolving EU regulatory environment and key policy documents affecting the Polish heavy goods transport sector. The study also examined the experiences of other European countries in this area, drawing lessons and identifying implications relevant for the Polish government.
The project provides analyses and recommendations concerning the development of heavy road transport electrification in Poland. The final report outlines possible transformation scenarios for the sector, investment needs, and key challenges related to charging infrastructure and the energy system. The initiative also contributes to the public debate on the future of road transport and climate policy in Poland.
The project was prepared for the Electric Vehicle Promotion Foundation by Deloitte Poland and the Reform Institute.
