UPTAKE - Bridging current knowledge gaps to enable the uptake of carbon dioxide removal methods
About the project
Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) from the atmosphere and long-term durable storage is required to meet emissions and carbon neutrality targets. The UPTAKE project aims to develop resilient CDR strategies based on strengthened scientific evidence on the social, technological, economic, and environmental characteristics of CDR technologies and their interplay. The initiative will create a harmonized, comprehensive, inclusive, and transparent CDR knowledge inventory, evaluating a wide range of CDR methods on a global scale.
The UPTAKE consortium is coordinated by Fondazione Centro Euro-Mediterraneo Sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC) and brings together twenty partners from across Europe. The project started in September 2023 and will last until August 2027.
Within the project, Reform Institute will coordinate the CDR Stakeholder Forum, as well as the analysis of existing and potential business models for CDR upscaling.
UPTAKE has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 101081521.
