More than two dozen non-governmental organisations, businesses and think tanks have signed an open\u00a0<\/span>letter<\/span>\u00a0addressed to Energy Minister Mi\u0142osz Motyka cal<\/span>li<\/span>ng for accelerated work on Poland’s energy transition plan, and for the swift adoption of the updated National Energy and C<\/span>li<\/span>mate Plan.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The updated results of analyses for the active energy transition scenario (WAM), presented in the NECP update, show the scale of challenges and opportunities related to both the transition itself and climate protection. For the transition to become a reality, a multilateral discussion on adapting the Polish economy to the changing regulatory and technological environment is necessary. Importantly, this applies not only to the power industry and mining, which have been at the centre of the debate on transformation in Poland so far, but also to\u00a0a number of\u00a0other sectors facing far-reaching changes, including heating, industry, buildings,\u00a0transport\u00a0and agriculture.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, the signatories of the open\u00a0letter\u00a0appeal to the management of the Ministry of Energy, headed by Minister Mi\u0142osz Motyka, to:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Ensure rapid completion of work and adoption of the\u00a0NECP\u00a0so that the Plan can become a solid basis for making strategic energy and climate decisions and formulating further expected documents,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Use\u00a0the\u00a0conclusions from the\u00a0NECP\u00a0when updating PEP2040 and sectoral strategies. The updated Plan\u00a0contains\u00a0important elements, such as detailed actions and the institutions responsible for their implementation. These should be reflected in the provisions of the Polish Energy Policy (PEP2040) and sectoral strategies (heating, industry, transport,\u00a0buildings\u00a0and fuels)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Develop\u00a0national analytical tools and energy system modelling. Work on the\u00a0NECP\u00a0revealed the need to invest in the development of a Polish analytical ecosystem, bringing together the administration,\u00a0expert\u00a0and non-governmental communities. Such a system would enable rapid updates of forecasts, scenario\u00a0analysis\u00a0and comparison of the results of different teams.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Create\u00a0a clear, inter-ministerial plan for the implementation of the energy transition strategy. The best analyses will not be effective without an effective implementation system. Therefore, the plan we propose should be clearly defined, regularly\u00a0monitored\u00a0and based on consistent indicators.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Strengthen\u00a0institutional dialogue with stakeholders. Although the signatories welcome the developing cross-sectoral dialogue, they point to the need for its permanent, formal consolidation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
